eSIM card and its uses

eSIM card is ready to be available in the market no matter if there are hardly any smartphones that are capable of supporting them. It is no more a futuristic approach as these are already available in the market. So, we will discuss in detail eSIM and how these would work and what is required in a smartphone to use them.

What is an eSIM Card?

One thing is pretty clear the existing smartphones do not support them because these are inbuilt into the smartphone and are capable to work with different carriers. Hence, there would be no need to physically change the SIM card whenever you require changing the carrier service. To make it work it would need a supporting App to provide seamless connectivity to the user. The biggest benefit of having an eSIM is that it cannot be mutated like a physical card. Hence, it is more secure and safe to use.

How to use eSIM cards?

Basically, there is no change in the functionality and works just like any physical SIM card except for the fact there is no need to insert a plastic SIM with a chip because an eSIM has all hardware and software installed inside the smartphone to make it run on its own.  However, it would require some initial setup for configuring it in the Android OS so that it can be treated as a normal SIM card.

There is a major advantage of using eSIM is that it does support dual SIM capacity but currently supports Android OS only so, it cannot be used in Apple iPhone. Otherwise, it can be used on different devices by using the same profile. Anyways it supports all versions of Android devices having at-least Android 9 Pie or above versions of operating systems.

One thing is sure that eSIM is convenient to use eliminating the need of reaching out to stores to get new SIM or change carriers for porting numbers. It is simple to change the existing carrier and move to another by simply selecting them from the available list and getting the configuration done within a few minutes without any hassle.

It is specifically beneficial because when the user finds a better plan or reasonable plan by the other then he or she can choose to change with just a few clicks that too without visiting any store or office to port the existing number.

Where to get eSIM?

Curently eSIM.me has started rolling out these eSIM cards along with App support which also lets the user check whether the smartphone support eSIM or not. It should also be noted that it is not everyone. Hence, if you have devices that support eSIM then the user can avail of the services starting from $25 for one card which can support up to profiles. In case the license transfer is required then there is a cost of $10 with some limits on the number of device usage.

Conclusion:

eSIM cards are a new concept that is available in the market despite the fact there are hardly any smart devices that support them. But on the same hand, there are chances that in the future these would be used on a large scale as these are beneficial for the users.
